Known for Organometallic Chemistry

Eva Hevia is a brilliant scientist and a professor who teaches chemistry at two big universities. She works at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, and also at the University of Bern in Switzerland. She is an expert in a special area of chemistry called Organometallic Chemistry.

Early Life and Education

Eva Hevia was born in Gijón, Spain, in 1976. She became interested in science when she was very young. She studied hard at the University of Oviedo and earned her Master's and PhD degrees in 2002.

Her Journey in Science

After finishing her studies, Eva Hevia moved to the University of Strathclyde in 2006. There, she became a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow, which is a special award for talented researchers. She worked with Professor Robert Mulvey.

She quickly moved up in her career. She became a Senior Lecturer in 2010 and a Reader in 2011. By 2013, when she was only 38 years old, she became a full Professor at the University of Strathclyde. In February 2019, Eva Hevia also became a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bern in Switzerland.

What Her Research Is About

Eva Hevia's research focuses on something called polar organometallic chemistry. This is a type of chemistry that uses metals to create new chemical reactions. Her team works with common metals, not rare ones, to make new materials.

They are interested in how two different metals can work together. This cooperation helps them create new ways to make important chemical compounds. Her work can be used in many fields, like making new medicines (pharmacology) and improving products for farming (agricultural chemistry). Her research also helps make chemistry more environmentally friendly.

Eva Hevia has shared her exciting discoveries by giving over a hundred talks and lectures around the world.

Awards and Recognition

Eva Hevia has received many important awards for her amazing work in chemistry. These awards show how much her research is valued by scientists worldwide.
