About Eva Lindström
Early Life and Education
Eva Lindström was born in Västerås, Sweden, in 1952. She loved art from a young age. From 1969 to 1974, she studied painting at Konstfack, a well-known art school in Stockholm. During her time there, she was part of a group that wanted to bring about social change. This period helped shape her unique and thoughtful artistic style.
Starting Her Career
Lindström began her career in the 1980s as a cartoonist, drawing funny and clever pictures. Her very first book, which she both wrote and illustrated, was called Kattmössan (The Cat Hat). This book was published in 1989. Later, in 1996, she released her second book, Lurix. She is especially well-known for her children's books, which include popular titles like Berättesler om Mats Och Roj (Somebody Moves In—Stories About Mats and Roj) from 2002 and Olli Och Mo (Olli and Mo) from 2012.
Eva's Artistic Style
Eva Lindström's illustrations are often made using watercolors, sometimes with gouache (a type of opaque watercolor) or pencils. Her artwork is known for being both funny and smart. It also has a deeper meaning, making people think about important ideas. The judges for the Nordic Council Children and Young People's Literature Prize described her work as having "existential depth," meaning it explores big questions about life and feelings in a way that kids can understand.
