Life Story of Eva Strittmatter
Eva Strittmatter studied at the Humboldt University of Berlin. She studied German language, Romance languages, and teaching from 1947 to 1951. In 1950, she got married and had a son. However, this marriage ended in divorce.
From 1954, Eva worked as a freelance writer. This means she wrote books and articles for different publishers. She then met Erwin Strittmatter (1912–1994). He was also a well-known writer. They married in 1956. Together, they had three sons. One of their sons, Erwin Berner, later became an actor and writer. When she married Erwin, Eva changed her last name from Braun to Strittmatter.
At first, her husband's fame was very big. It sometimes made it harder for her own writing to get noticed. But after she turned 40, her writing career really took off. After her husband passed away in 1994, Eva helped to organize and publish some of his unfinished works.
