Evan Narcisse's Personal Life
Evan Narcisse's parents came to the United States from Haiti in the late 1960s. He grew up understanding Antillean Kreyol, a language spoken in Haiti. His mother raised him and his siblings in a New York neighborhood. This area later changed, making it harder for some people to live there.
From a young age, Narcisse was interested in the history of Haiti. This interest made him want to write about fairness and how different groups of people are shown in stories. He has always been a big fan of the Black Panther comics. He remembers reading a Black Panther story from the 1970s. In that story, Black Panther was shown as a Black man from a foreign country who was also very smart and cultured.
