Journalism Work
In the 2000s, Evan Narcisse wrote for several news outlets. He focused on the video game world. In 2010, he wrote articles for The Atlantic. In October 2011, he joined the video game blog Kotaku. He worked there for almost five years.
After leaving Kotaku in 2016, Narcisse became a senior staff writer at io9. This website is a sister site to Kotaku. At io9, he wrote about comics and reviewed them. He has also written for Time, IGN, and GameSpot. Evan Narcisse has even appeared as an expert guest on CNN and NPR.
Comic Book Stories
Evan Narcisse's work on comic books began in an interesting way. He interviewed Ta-Nehisi Coates about Coates's Black Panther comic series. Coates's editor at Marvel noticed Narcisse's interview. The editor then invited Narcisse to work on future Black Panther stories.
Narcisse's first comic book was Rise of the Black Panther. This was a 2018 limited series he co-wrote with Coates. The comic series explores the early life of T'Challa, who is Black Panther. It also shows his family and his home, Wakanda. Wakanda is a fictional African nation where T'Challa is king. Narcisse wanted to show what makes T'Challa "a man, a king and an African superhero."
Narcisse has written other comic books for Marvel Comics. These include Marvel's Voices #1 and Last Annihilation: Wakanda #1. He also co-wrote WWE The New Day: Power of Positivity. Video Game Stories
Evan Narcisse's first work on a video game was for Spider-Man in 2018. He wrote some dialogue for the game. He later helped as a story consultant for Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020. This game was a separate story starring the character Miles Morales.
Narcisse also worked as a story consultant for War for Wakanda. This was a 2021 expansion for Marvel's Avengers. It featured Black Panther as the main character. Personal Life
Evan Narcisse's parents were immigrants from Haiti. They moved to the United States in the late 1960s. Because of this, Narcisse could understand Antillean Kreyol. He and his siblings grew up with their mother in a New York suburban neighborhood.
From a young age, Narcisse was inspired by the political history of Haiti. This made him interested in writing about topics like race and representation. He has always been a big fan of the Black Panther comic books. He remembers reading a Black Panther story from the 1970s. In that story, the superhero was shown to be a Black man from a foreign country who was also very smart.
Evan Narcisse studied at New York University. He later taught a course there about video game journalism. In 2016, he moved from New York City to Austin, Texas.
