Evandro C. Carvalho was born on September 9, 1981. He is an American lawyer and politician. He served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2014 to 2019. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He represented the Fifth Suffolk District, which includes the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston.

Early Life and Learning

Evandro Carvalho was born in Cape Verde, an island country off the coast of Africa. When he was 15 years old, he moved to Boston, USA.

He went to Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. After that, he studied legal topics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree there. Later, he got his law degree (called a Juris Doctor) from the Howard University School of Law.

Political Career

Before becoming a politician, Carvalho worked as a lawyer. From 2011 to 2013, he was an assistant district attorney for Suffolk County. A district attorney is a lawyer who works for the government. They bring legal cases against people accused of crimes.

In 2014, Evandro Carvalho decided to run for a political office. He wanted to represent the Fifth Suffolk District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state.

He won the primary election for the Democratic Party on April 1, 2014. A primary election is when people choose which candidate from their party will run in the main election. He then ran unopposed in the general election on April 29, meaning no one else ran against him. He was sworn into office on May 14, 2014.

In 2018, Carvalho chose not to run for his seat again. Instead, he ran for the Democratic nomination to become the Suffolk County District Attorney. He did not win this election.

He also ran for a seat on the Boston City Council in 2021. The City Council is a group of elected officials who make decisions for the city of Boston. He made it past the first round of voting but did not win the final election.

Other Activities

Evandro Carvalho has been involved in many other important activities. In 2006, he worked as a legal intern helping people with immigration issues. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a lawyer at a firm called WilmerHale.

He also worked as a legal counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance from 2013 to 2014. From 2011 to 2014, he was on the board of directors for an organization called Teen Empowerment. This group helps young people make positive changes in their communities.

Since August 2019, he has been the executive director of the Boston Human Rights Commission. This group works to protect human rights in the city.
