Evandro C. Carvalho, born on September 9, 1981, is an American lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2014 to 2019. He belongs to the Democratic Party. He represented the Fifth Suffolk District, which includes the Dorchester area of Boston.

Growing Up and Learning

Evandro Carvalho was born in Cape Verde. He moved to Boston when he was 15 years old. He went to Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. Later, he studied legal topics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He also earned a law degree from Howard University School of Law.

Evandro Carvalho worked as a lawyer before becoming a politician.

Working as a Lawyer

From 2011 to 2013, he worked for the Suffolk County District Attorney. He was an assistant district attorney. This means he helped with legal cases for the county.

He also worked as a legal intern in Brockton, Massachusetts, in 2006. From 2007 to 2010, he was an associate at WilmerHale, a law firm. He was also a legal counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance from 2013 to 2014.

Becoming a State Representative

In 2014, Evandro Carvalho decided to run for office. He won the primary election for the Fifth Suffolk seat on April 1, 2014. He was the only candidate in the general election on April 29. He won with about 739 votes. He officially started his role on May 14, 2014.

Later Campaigns

In 2018, Carvalho did not run for his state representative seat again. Instead, he ran for the Democratic nomination for Suffolk County District Attorney. He finished third in that election.

In 2021, he ran for a seat on the Boston City Council. He made it past the first election round. However, he lost to Brian Worrell in the final election.

Other Important Roles

From 2011 to 2014, he was on the board of directors for Teen Empowerment. This group helps young people. Since August 2019, he has been the executive director of the Boston Human Rights Commission. In this role, he works to protect human rights in Boston.
