Early Life and Education

Evelyn Andrus was born in 1909 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She went to the University of Toronto to study. After her studies, she became a professional photographer. She specialized in taking portraits of people in Hamilton.

Leading the Toronto Camera Club

Evelyn was very involved with the Toronto Camera Club (TCC). She helped lead their education program. She also taught classes on how to take great portrait photos. In 1952, Evelyn Andrus became the first female president of the TCC. This was a big achievement for women in photography.

Other Photography Groups

Besides the TCC, Evelyn was part of other important photography groups. She was a member of the Commercial and Press Photographers' Association of Canada. She also joined the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and the Photographic Society of America (PSA). She even became a director for the PSA in Eastern Canada. Evelyn also wrote articles for the TCC's newsletter, "Focus."

Achievements in Photography

Evelyn Andrus was the first Canadian woman to become an associate of the RPS. This special recognition was given because of her amazing color photography. Her work showed great skill and artistry.

Later Life

Evelyn's photography career ended when she developed arthritis. This condition made it hard for her to continue her work. She passed away in Hamilton in 1972.
