Even Northug (born 26 September 1995) is a talented Norwegian cross-country skier. He is known for his speed in sprint races. Even comes from a family of famous skiers; his older brothers are Petter Northug and Tomas Northug. He represents the sports clubs Mosvik IL and Strindheim IL.

Even Northug: A Cross-Country Skiing Star
Even Northug started his journey in cross-country skiing at a young age. He quickly showed promise, especially in sprint events, which are short, fast races. His career has seen him compete in major international events, including the World Junior Championships and the prestigious World Cup.
Early Career and Junior Success
Even began competing in big events early on. He took part in the 2014 World Junior Championships, where he finished ninth in the sprint race. This was a great start for a young skier.
He continued to shine in the U23 (Under 23) category. At the 2018 World Junior Championships, he won a bronze medal in the sprint event. This medal was a big achievement, showing his potential as a top skier.
World Cup Journey
Even made his first appearance in the World Cup in March 2015. This was a sprint race held in Drammen, Norway. The World Cup is a series of races held throughout the winter season, where the best skiers from around the world compete.
A year later, in the same location, he earned his first World Cup points by finishing eighth in a sprint race. This meant he was among the top skiers in the world. He kept improving, reaching sixth place in a sprint race in Dresden in January 2018.
Major Achievements and Podiums
Even Northug has achieved several impressive results in his career. He has competed in the World Championships and has earned multiple podium finishes in World Cup races. A podium finish means placing in the top three (first, second, or third).
World Championship Highlights
Even competed in the 2023 World Championships. He raced in the men's sprint event and finished in a strong seventh place. This shows he can compete with the very best skiers on the biggest stages.
Top Finishes in World Cup Races
Even has earned seven individual podiums in World Cup events. This means he has finished in the top three seven times in individual races. These include:
- Two second-place finishes in sprint races in Finland and Norway during the 2022–23 season.
- A third-place finish in a sprint race in Estonia in March 2023.
- Two more third-place finishes in Germany and Norway during the 2023–24 season.
- A second-place finish in Norway in December 2024.
- Another second-place finish in Italy in January 2025.
Teamwork and Victories
Even has also had success in team events. He has been part of two team podiums in the World Cup.
- In December 2021, he and his teammate Thomas Helland Larsen won a team sprint race in Dresden, Germany. This was a big victory for them and Norway!
- In March 2024, he and his teammate Håvard Solås Taugbøl finished second in a team sprint race in Lahti, Finland.
Even Northug continues to be a strong competitor in cross-country skiing, especially in sprint races, and is a key part of the Norwegian team.
