Fafda facts for kids
Fafda (Gujarati: ફાફડા) is a very popular Indian snack that comes from Gujarat, a state in India. It's a yellowish, rectangular treat that many people love to eat, especially during festivals!
The Story of Fafda
Fafda became famous because of a special festival called Dusherra. During this time, Fafda and jalebi are often eaten together. Jalebi is a sweet, spiral-shaped snack. People in Gujarat love this sweet and salty combination! It's a very popular breakfast choice for many Gujarati people.
How Fafda is Made and Eaten
Making Fafda involves a few simple steps. First, you need ingredients like besan (which is gram flour), oil, carom seeds (also called ajwain), papad khar, and salt. All these ingredients are mixed together in a bowl.
Next, enough water is added to the mixture to make a soft dough. Small pieces of this dough are then rolled into a cylindrical shape. After flattening them, they are deep-fried until they become nice and crispy.
Fafda is usually served with a tasty chutney. It also comes with salty fried green chilies. Sometimes, it's enjoyed with a spicy shredded vegetable mix called "sambharo." This sambharo can be made from carrots or spicy shredded papaya.
