Fairfax, Highland County, Ohio facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Fairfax is a small place in Ohio, located in a part of the state called Highland County. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

A Look Back at Fairfax's History

Fairfax got its start a long time ago, in the 1830s. Early settlers came to this area and began to build a community. The name "Fairfax" was chosen to honor a special place: Fairfax, Virginia. This was the original home of one of the very first people to settle in the Ohio Fairfax.

The Old Post Office

As the community grew, it needed ways for people to communicate. A post office was an important part of daily life back then. Fairfax had its own post office, which opened in 1851. This office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It served the community for many years before closing its doors in 1906.
