Fairforest's Story
Fairforest has an interesting past, especially during the American Revolutionary War. Back then, it was one of the few places in South Carolina where people who supported the British (called Loyalists) were more numerous than those who wanted independence (called Patriots). It was even described as a "hot-bed of pro-British sentiment."
A post office was set up in Fairforest in 1884. The name "Fairforest" comes from a story about an early explorer. When they saw the beautiful scenery, they supposedly said, "What a fair forest!"
