Fairy Tales Told for Children. New Collection (which in Danish is Eventyr, fortalte for Børn. Ny Samling) is a wonderful collection of ten fairy tales written by the famous author Hans Christian Andersen. These stories were first published in Copenhagen, Denmark, in three parts, between October 1838 and December 1841.

First Book: October 1838

The first part of Fairy Tales Told for Children. New Collection came out on October 2, 1838. It was called Eventyr, fortalte for Børn. Ny Samling. Første Hefte in Danish. This booklet included three special stories:

  • "The Daisy" ("Gåseurten") is about a sweet little daisy. It is happy just watching a lark sing from its cage. When the lark dies, the daisy is sad. It feels forgotten after the lark's funeral.
  • "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" ("Den standhaftige tinsoldat") tells of a brave tin soldier. He falls in love with a beautiful paper ballerina. After many adventures, including being swallowed by a fish, he returns home. Sadly, both he and the ballerina end up in a fire. They melt together, forming a tin heart.
  • "The Wild Swans" ("De vilde svaner") is a story about a princess. She must stay silent to save her eleven brothers. An evil queen turned them into swans. The princess faces many hard challenges. She is even almost put to death! But she saves her brothers just in time. Then she can finally speak and tell her amazing story.

Second Book: October 1839

The second part of the collection was released on October 19, 1839. Its Danish title was Eventyr, fortalte for Børn. Ny Samling. Andet Hefte. This booklet also had three exciting tales:

  • "The Garden of Paradise" ("Paradisets have")
  • "The Flying Trunk" ("Den flyvende Kuffert")
  • "The Storks" ("Storkene")

Third Book: December 1841

The third and final part of the collection came out on December 20, 1841. It was known as Eventyr, fortalte for Børn. Ny Samling. Tredie Hefte. This last booklet featured four more wonderful stories:

  • "Ole Lukoie" ("Ole Lukøje")
  • "The Rose Elf" ("Rosen-Alfen")
  • "The Swineherd" ("Svinedrengen")
  • "The Buckwheat" ("Boghveden")

About Hans Christian Andersen

Hans Christian Andersen became very famous around the world. This happened after he published his novel The Improvisatore in 1835. He also released his first collection of fairy tales. That collection was called Fairy Tales Told for Children. First Collection. (1835–1837). It included popular stories like "The Tinderbox", "The Princess and the Pea", "Thumbelina", "The Little Mermaid", and "The Emperor's New Clothes".

Andersen returned to writing fairy tales in 1838. He created this new collection. It included "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," a story that changed fairy tales forever.
