The Falange Española Independiente (FEI), which means Independent Spanish Phalanx, was a political party in Spain. It was officially registered in 1977. This party grew out of a student group called the Frente de Estudiantes Sindicalistas (FES). The FES was made up of students who followed a political idea called Falangism, but they were against the government of Francisco Franco.

History of the FEI Party
How the Party Started
The student group FES was led by a person named Sigfredo Hillers. On February 23, 1977, this group officially became the Falange Española Independiente. The party held its very first big meeting, called a National Congress, on October 27 and 28, 1979.
Changes and Survival
In the 1980s, Sigfredo Hillers stepped down from his leadership role. After this, many members and leaders of the FEI left to join another party called FE-JONS. Because so many people left, it seemed like the FEI party might disappear completely.
However, a few older members from the original FES group kept the party going. The FEI became more well-known again in 1999. This happened after another party, FE-JONS, had its own problems, and many of its members decided to join the FEI instead.
Joining Other Groups
In the year 2000, the FEI party worked together with another group called Falange 2000. They formed an "electoral coalition," which means they teamed up for elections. Later, in 2004, both Falange 2000 and the FEI party officially joined with FE-JONS.
