The Fall River is a beautiful and clear river located in the Deschutes National Forest in Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. It's a smaller river that flows into the larger Deschutes River. The Fall River is special because it starts from a natural spring, not from rain or snowmelt like many rivers.
About the Fall River
The Fall River begins from a spring located about 2 miles (3.2 km) northwest of Pringle Falls. From its source, the river flows generally to the northeast. It travels for about 12 miles (19 km) before it joins the Deschutes River.
Activities Along the River
The Fall River is a popular spot for outdoor activities. Many people enjoy Fly fishing here, as it's a great place to catch fish. There is also a walking trail that follows the river, perfect for exploring the natural beauty of the area.
If you want to stay longer, there's a campground about a mile downstream from where the river starts. You can even rent a guard station located right at the river's source.
Fall River Falls
Along its path, the Fall River has a beautiful waterfall called Fall River Falls. This waterfall is located within La Pine State Park, which is a great place to visit and enjoy nature.
Fall River Hatchery
The Fall River is also home to the Fall River Hatchery. This is a special facility run by the state of Oregon. Its main job is to raise young fish, called fingerlings. They raise different types of trout, including rainbow trout, brook trout, and cutthroat trout. These young fish are then released into rivers and lakes across Oregon. This helps to keep fish populations healthy for fishing and the environment.
The river has one named stream that flows into it, called Indian Creek. This creek joins the Fall River from the left side, just above the hatchery.
