Where is Falling Leaf Lake?
Falling Leaf Lake is tucked away in a special kind of valley. This valley is called a cirque. A cirque is a bowl-shaped hollow. It is often formed by glaciers. The lake sits north of a large peak called Allen Mountain. It is also very close to another lake, Snow Moon Lake.
What is a Cirque?
Imagine a giant scoop taken out of the side of a mountain. That's pretty much what a cirque looks like! These natural bowls are carved by glaciers. As glaciers move, they scrape away rock. This creates a deep, rounded basin. When the glacier melts, water can fill this basin. This is how lakes like Falling Leaf Lake are formed.
