Fallon, Roanoke, Virginia facts for kids
Fallon is a neighborhood located in the city of Roanoke, Virginia. You can find it in the southeast part of the city.
Fallon shares its borders with several other neighborhoods. To the north, it's next to Hollins. To the south, you'll find Kenwood. On its western side, Fallon borders Belmont. The town of Vinton forms the eastern border and part of the northern border.
Today, a road called Virginia State Route 24 (also known as Dale Avenue) cuts through the middle of the Fallon neighborhood. Tinker Creek flows along the eastern edge of the area.
History of Fallon
The Fallon neighborhood was first created to provide homes for people who worked at the nearby Roanoke Shops. These shops were a big part of Roanoke's history, where trains were built and repaired.
Most of the buildings and homes in Fallon were constructed between the 1890s and the 1950s. This means many of the houses are quite old and have a lot of history!
The people who live in Fallon have a group called the Southeast Action Forum. This group works to help and improve the neighborhood.
Today, Fallon is home to two important places: Fallon Park, which is a great spot for outdoor activities, and the Fallon Park Elementary School, where many local children go to learn.
