Fantaghirò is a fun cartoon show from Spain and Italy. It started in 1999. The show is based on some live-action movies about Fantaghirò.

Many talented people helped make it! BRB Internacional created the show. Colorland Animation Production did the animation. Francesca Melandri, Giovanni Romoli, and Lamberto Bava wrote the stories. Companies like Mediaset, Telecinco, and Grupo Planeta produced it. Mark Bradley and Terry Wilson made the music. In 2000, a special movie called Fantaghirò: Quest for the Kuorum was made. It used parts from the TV series.

The Story of Fantaghirò

The Fantaghirò cartoon uses ideas from all five live-action movies. It mixes and changes different events and characters. The main idea in the series is the strong love between Princess Fantaghirò and King Romualdo. Their love changes everyone around them.

The main bad guys in the show are the Black Witch and her boss, Darken. They appear right from the first episode. The cartoon also gives names to places and people that weren't named in the movies. For example, Fantaghirò's home is the kingdom of Tuan. Romualdo's home is the kingdom of Dana.

The show follows the exciting adventures of Fantaghirò. She is the youngest daughter of King Hadrian of Tuan. Fantaghirò is brave and speaks her mind. She doesn't want to be quiet and obedient like other women are expected to be.

Fantaghirò doesn't know it at first, but she was born for a special reason. Her destiny is to defeat all the evil in the land. Her courage comes from her great love for Romualdo. He is the prince of the kingdom of Dana. Throughout the series, the Black Witch and Darken try to separate or destroy Fantaghirò and Romualdo.

Main Characters

Many characters from the live-action movies are in this cartoon series. Some have new names or have changed a bit. There are also some brand new characters.

Lightning and Bolt from the movies are now an imp-boy named Flash and a cat named Bolt. The White Witch from the movies has been split into two characters: the White Fairy and Mother Goose.

Here are some of the adventures Fantaghirò has:

Season 1

• 1. "The Prophecy": We meet the kingdoms of Tuan and Dana. They have been fighting for hundreds of years. This started when Princess Kyra of Tuan made a deal with the evil lord Darken. She stole the holy Kuorum, which is linked to the feelings of the two kingdoms. As long as they fight, the Kuorum creates dark magic. Many years later, a prophecy says a girl will be born to destroy all evil. The Black Witch tries to kill baby Fantaghirò, but the White Fairy protects her.

• 2. "The Grotto of the Holy Beast": Fantaghirò is now a young woman. She dreams about a young man with amazing eyes. She feels she must find him. But her father, King Hadrian, wants her and her sisters to marry princes from another kingdom. Fantaghirò says no and runs into the forest. There, she meets the White Fairy, who tells her about her destiny. Later, she meets her enemy, Prince Romualdo, from Dana.

• 3. "The Scarlet Knight": Prince Romualdo dreams he is fighting Darken. A mysterious Scarlet Knight helps him. Romualdo sends a message to the King of Tuan. He asks for a final duel to end the war. King Hadrian agrees and holds a tournament. Fantaghirò secretly enters as the Scarlet Knight, with help from Mother Goose. The Black Witch learns this and sends her own minion, the Black Knight, to defeat the Scarlet Knight.

• 4. "The Duel of Love": Fantaghirò gets ready for her duel with Romualdo. She doesn't know he is the one she loves. The Black Witch fears they will discover their true feelings. She wants to make sure they never realize they are meant to be together. Her spell creates a fake Fantaghirò. This fake one tries to trick Romualdo into going to the Bottomless Swamp to die. The White Fairy warns Romualdo of the danger. She helps protect the lovers.

• 5. "The Hunter's Prey": King Hadrian is traveling when Darken and his Drakes hunt him. Meanwhile, Catherine and Caroline are getting ready to marry Cataldo and Ivaldo. Fantaghirò makes a magical promise never to fight with weapons again. The fun stops when news arrives that the Black Witch captured King Hadrian. Romualdo, Cataldo, Ivaldo, and the army leave to save the king. Fantaghirò secretly follows them. She fights her own way to the Dark Castle.

• 6. "The Rescue of the Kuorum": Fantaghirò arrives at the Dark Castle. She fights many creatures and avoids traps. She is shocked when she reaches the Kuorum. She finds she must fight her beloved Romualdo, who is under a spell from the Black Witch.

• 7. "The Forest of the Elves": Fantaghirò and Romualdo are traveling to Torelia. Darken and the Black Witch attack them again. This time, they get separated in the Forest of the Elves. Fantaghirò meets a Unicorn. She must face three challenges set by the Elves.

• 8. "Heart of Stone": Xelesia, mother of the dark wizard Tarabas, finds a prophecy. It says Tarabas will be defeated by Fantaghirò. Xelesia sends her clay warriors to fight Fantaghirò. During the battle, one warrior drags Romualdo into a river. He turns into a stone statue! Fantaghirò learns the only way to save him is to get a kiss from Tarabas himself.

• 9. "The Black Cloud": Fantaghirò stays in the Forest of Oread. Romualdo, Ivaldo, and Cataldo are in Dana. The Black Witch creates a terrible Black Cloud. She sends it to Tuan, where it swallows Fantaghirò's castle. Fantaghirò teams up with the Dragon and the White Fairy. They try to stop the Black Cloud from reaching Dana. They want to send it to the Mountains of the Eternal Eclipse, where it can be defeated. Romualdo, Cataldo, and Ivaldo try to reach Tuan, worried about Fantaghirò.

• 10. "Captain Redface": The Black Witch sends an enchanted balloon to destroy Fantaghirò's castle. Fantaghirò, Romualdo, and King Hadrian stop it from breaking the walls. But they get caught in it! The balloon carries them away to an unknown place. Fantaghirò follows on Golden Mane. The balloon flies over the sea. Fantaghirò gets a ride on a mysterious ship, but things get complicated.

• 11. "The Horseman of Hate": Darken and the Black Witch find a way to bring back the hatred between Tuan and Dana. They want the kingdoms to fight again. They use General Orymus of Dana, who thinks Romualdo is ignoring his people. The Horseman of Hate arrives. He affects everyone except Fantaghirò and Romualdo. They are left alone to save their people from being consumed by hate.

• 15. "The Last Goodbye": Raken, a very powerful wizard, sends the Horseman of the Plague. He wants to crush Fantaghirò’s kingdom. He puts everyone into an eternal sleep. Only Fantaghirò stays awake. She watches in despair as Romualdo is kidnapped. Fantaghirò joins forces with Tarabas, the son of the witch Xelexia. Tarabas is a young wizard who loves Fantaghirò. They go to Raken’s underground kingdom.

• 18. "In the Heart of the Ice": High on Ice Mountain is a palace made of icicles. Inside, in a frozen pool, grow beautiful water lilies. They are guarded by the evil Ice Man. These lilies are a symbol of eternal love. Fantaghirò knows the story from her father, King Hadrian. He always wanted to give one to the late Queen Alba, Fantaghirò's mother. Fantaghirò’s love for her father and her longing for her mother lead her to search for the lilies. Romualdo and Mother Goose go with her.

• 19. "The Book of a Thousand Spells": Fantaghirò and Romualdo go to fight a forest monster. It has been scaring her people. They find out it's a machine! Inside is Ali, a magician with a black cat. Ali says he is running from the Black Witch and Isuf, the Wizard of Damascus. They want him to tell them where the Book of a Thousand Spells is hidden. The black cat is actually Scheherazade, a storyteller. Isuf enchanted her because she wouldn't tell him where the book was.

• 20. "The Weapons of Peace"

• 22. "Tree World": Tree World is a huge place where peaceful human-sized insects live. The Black Witch attacks them. She wants the legendary stones that once gave dragons their strength. Whoever has them will be the most powerful being in the world. Amidst the chaos, Vinson the cicada remembers an old song. It says the princess of Tuan can talk to dragons and will save Tree World. Arigato the ant goes to find Fantaghiró.

• 23. "The Essence of Life"

• 25. "The Red Diamond": Everyone in Tuan is excited about Fantaghirò and Romualdo's wedding. Hadrian gives Fantaghirò his most special jewel, the Red Diamond. He tells her how he got it. Fantaghirò is amazed by its beauty and feels it holds many secrets. That same night, the Red Diamond glows. The witch Dahak wakes up in her lair, full of evil joy. For centuries, she tried to get the Red Diamond but failed. This time, she won't fail. Dahak goes to Fantaghirò’s Castle. She threatens the princess if she doesn't hand over the diamond.

• 26. "Love Conquers Everything": Darken plans his most terrible trick to destroy Fantaghirò for good. He sets a trap to lure the princess to his kingdom, Volcano. The White Fairy goes with her. This way, the fairy won't stop the Black Witch. It also leaves the Forest of Oread unprotected for Darken to invade. A few days before their wedding, Fantaghirò and Romualdo get a visit from the White Fairy. She explains she felt the presence of the Aurum. They must hurry and find it. She remembers her past and tells them it was a powerful spell book. Her old teacher became so strong and evil from it that he turned into Darken. The final battle between good and evil has begun.
