Scheherazade is a legendary Persian queen. She is the amazing storyteller in the famous book One Thousand and One Nights. This collection of stories has been loved by people for hundreds of years.
The story, written long ago, tells about a powerful Persian king named Shahryar. He had a very sad and angry past. This made him do something terrible: he would marry a young woman every night. Then, the next morning, he would order her to be killed. He had already ordered the deaths of 3000 women in this way.

Scheherazade's Plan
One day, Scheherazade heard about the king's cruel actions. She bravely decided she wanted to spend the night with him. Her father, who was the king's chief advisor, disagreed. He was worried for her safety. But Scheherazade was determined and still went to the king.
She spent the entire night telling him a fascinating story. As morning approached, she stopped the story at a very exciting moment. The king desperately wanted to hear how the story ended. However, Scheherazade told him he would have to wait until the next night to hear the rest.
The 1001 Nights
The next night, Scheherazade finished the first story. Then, she immediately began another new one. Again, she stopped at an exciting part just as dawn arrived. The king had to wait another night to hear the rest of this new tale.
Scheherazade continued this clever plan for 1001 nights. Each night, she told him a new story, always stopping at a thrilling moment. She told him 1001 different stories in total.
The King's Change of Heart
In the end, something wonderful happened. The king had completely fallen in love with Scheherazade. By this time, they also had three children together. Because of his love and their family, the king decided not to order her death. Scheherazade's bravery and amazing storytelling saved her life and changed the king's heart forever.
Story Origins
The main part of these stories comes from an old Persian book. It was called Hezar-afsana, which means "A Thousand Myths" in Persian.
