Mili Avital (born March 30, 1972) is a talented actress from Israel. She started her acting journey in Israel, performing in plays, movies, and TV shows. In 1991, she won an important award called the Israeli Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 1993, Mili moved to New York to study acting. She was discovered by an agent while working in a restaurant. Soon after, she began acting in Hollywood films. She has continued her acting career in both Israel and the United States.

Early Life and Education
Mili Avital was born in Jerusalem, Israel. Her parents, Noni and Iko Avital, are graphic designers. Both of her parents are Sephardic Jews. Her father was born in Morocco. Her mother was born in Israel and has Turkish-Jewish family roots.
Mili grew up in Tel Aviv and Ra'anana, both in Israel. She attended the Thelma Yellin High School of Arts in Givatayim, Israel. This school is known for its focus on the arts.
Mili Avital's Acting Career
In 1993, Mili Avital moved to New York City. She went to the Circle in the Square Theatre School to study acting. The next year, an agent discovered her while she was working as a waitress. She was quickly chosen for a big role.
Early Hollywood Roles
Mili played the main female character in the 1994 science fiction movie Stargate. For this role, she received a Sci-fi Universe award. She then appeared in several other notable films. These include Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man with Johnny Depp. She also starred in Doug Ellin's Kissing a Fool alongside David Schwimmer.
Mili also appeared in Polish Wedding with Claire Danes. Later, she was in Robert Benton's The Human Stain. In this film, she acted with famous stars like Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman.
Television Appearances
Mili Avital has also had many roles on television. She played Scheherazade in the miniseries Arabian Nights. This show was nominated for an Emmy award. She also appeared in Uprising and After the Storm.
From 2009 to 2010, Mili was in the TV show Damages. She played a recurring role as a character connected to Patty Hewes, played by Glenn Close. In 2012, she appeared in the ABC television series 666 Park Avenue. She also had roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Israeli Film and TV
Mili Avital has continued to work in Israeli productions. She starred in the Israeli film "Columbian Love" (2004). She also appeared in the Chinese-Israeli movie "Noodle." For her role in "Noodle," she was nominated for the Israeli Academy Award for Best Actress.
She starred in the popular Israeli TV show Prisoners of War (2009-2012). This show was highly praised and was even listed as one of the best international TV shows of the decade by The New York Times. It was later adapted into the American series Homeland.
Directing Work
Besides acting, Mili Avital is also a director. Her short documentary film, I Think Myself I Am All the Time Younger, was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2004.
She also directed, co-wrote, and co-produced a play called Next Stop - A Comedy of Misconnections. This play was performed in New York, Los Angeles, and Palo Alto. In 2024, it opened at the Habima National Theater in Israel. It is the only play ever performed there entirely in English.
Upcoming Projects
Mili Avital has several new projects coming out. In 2024, she will be in the movie "Mary" with Anthony Hopkins, which will be on Netflix. She is also in "Kugel" with Sasson Gabai, a spin-off from the hit series Shtisel. An Italian film based on a famous novel is also planned for release soon.
Personal Life
Mili Avital is married to Charles Randolph. They have two children together. The family divides their time between living in London and New York.
