The Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) is a museum in Farnborough, Hampshire. It's right next to the famous Farnborough Airfield. This museum is a great place to learn about the history of flight and science.
FAST has a collection of real airplanes and model planes. You can also see satellites, flight simulators, and even a wind tunnel. These are all connected to the amazing work done at the former Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE).
Part of the museum is inside Trenchard House. This building holds a library, old records, and a storage area. Many of the aircraft on display were designed or developed right here in Farnborough. The museum also keeps many models used in wind tunnels. Plus, there are lots of old drawings and plans from the Farnborough and Pyestock sites.
The museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Volunteers from the FAST Association help run the museum every day.
The museum has received good reviews. In 2009, The Times newspaper listed it as one of the 'Top 10 Geeky Holiday Spots on the Planet'. The Sun also called it one of the 'Kid's Go Free Top 10 Educational Visitor Attractions'.
Exploring Trenchard House
Trenchard House is a very old building on the Farnborough site. It was built in 1907. Back then, it was the main office for an airship company. This company was part of the Royal Engineers. Later, it became No 1 Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps. It was known as G1 Building and is the oldest building there.
In 1914, a famous leader named Lord Trenchard used it as his temporary office. He was in charge of the Military Wing of the Royal Flying Corps. The first flying squadrons of the RFC were based in the hangars right in front of this building.
Today, Trenchard House is a special historic building. It is the main office for the FAST museum.
