The Farrar-Mansur House is a really old and special house in Weston, Vermont. It was built way back in 1797! This house is part of a bigger area called the Weston Village Historic District. This whole district, including the Farrar-Mansur House, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1985. This means it's officially recognized as an important historical place.

A Home with a Long Story

Built by Captain Farrar

The Farrar-Mansur House was first built in 1797 by a man named Captain Oliver Farrar. He built it as a home for his family. Later, he added a big section to the house. This new part included a tavern, which was like an old-fashioned inn or pub.

From Family Home to Museum

The Farrar family lived in this house for a very long time, until 1857. Then, they sold it to the Mansur family. The Mansurs lived there for three generations, which means grandparents, parents, and children lived there. They stayed in the house until 1932.

After the Mansur family, Frank Mansur gave the house to the Community Club. He had one special request: the house needed to be fixed up and turned into a museum. In the 1930s, many people from the community helped restore the house. They added new wooden siding and fancy decorations on the outside. Inside, they painted murals in the main room and showed off the original wooden beams in the tavern area. They also filled the house with furniture and items from the 1700s and early 1800s.

Visiting the Farrar-Mansur House Museum

Today, the Farrar-Mansur House is a historic house museum. The Weston Historical Society takes care of it. When you visit, you can see what life was like long ago in Vermont.

What You Can See

The museum has many interesting things in its collection. You can find old furniture from New England. There are also metal items made in Vermont during the early 1800s. The museum also displays old toys, musical instruments, and beautiful china. You can see pottery, glassware, and even old costumes. They also have quilts, samplers (embroidered pictures), and portraits from the 1800s. It's like stepping back in time!
