Faslane's History
The area around Faslane was not very populated for a long time. However, things changed a lot during World War II.
During World War II, a naval base was built at Faslane. This was a big project that brought many changes to the area. Before the base was built, the nearby village of Garelochhead was already a busy place. It was served by Clyde steamers and had its own railway station.
For many years, a company that broke up old ships operated at Faslane. This continued until the mid-1980s. After that, the naval base needed more space. So, the area where the shipbreakers used to be was taken over to expand the naval base.
