Early Life and Moving to America
Faysal Ahmed was born in Yemen in 1990. He was one of nine children in his family. Even though his family was originally from Somalia, he spent his early years in Yemen. His family belongs to the Osman Mahamoud sub-clan. This is part of the larger Majeerteen-Daarod group.
In 1999, when he was 14 years old, Faysal moved to the United States. He moved with his mother and some of his brothers and sisters.
Faysal's Acting Journey
Before becoming a full-time actor, Faysal Ahmed worked at the Bedlam Theater in Minneapolis. He was a Youth Program Coordinator there. He helped with plays and poetry events. He also helped people sign up for MNsure, a health insurance program in Minnesota.
His First Big Movie Role
In 2013, Faysal Ahmed appeared in the movie Captain Phillips. He played a character named Najee. Najee was one of the ship hijackers in the film.
Faysal and three other actors were chosen for the movie from many people. Over 700 people tried out for the roles. The tryouts happened in 2011 at the Brian Coyle Community Center in Minneapolis. The casting director, Debbie DeLisi, said they were "the chosen ones." They stood out from everyone else.
Continuing His Acting Career
In early 2014, Faysal shared that he planned to move to Los Angeles. He wanted to keep working on his acting career there. In 2016, he was in a movie called A Stray. This film was directed by Musa Syeed.
Faysal Ahmed also worked again with Barkhad Abdi. Barkhad Abdi was another actor from Captain Phillips. They both starred in the second season of the TV show Castle Rock. Faysal appeared in six episodes of the show.
