Felecia Davis is an American architect, engineer, and teacher. She runs her own company called FELECIA DAVIS STUDIO. Here, she combines art, engineering, design, and architecture. Davis is well-known for her work with special computer-designed fabrics.

Education and Learning

Felecia Davis has studied at several top universities. In 1982, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Tufts University. She later received a Master in Architecture from Princeton University. She also earned a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her PhD focused on design and how computers can help with it.

Her Amazing Career

Davis's work explores how textiles (fabrics) and architecture can connect. She aims to create materials and objects that react to their surroundings. She uses a special method called Architextiles. This combines digital fabric making with computer design. It helps her create fabrics that can do many different things.

Smart Fabrics and Their Uses

Felecia Davis has developed some truly innovative textiles. For example, she created fabrics that can respond to touch. These were designed for hospital patients who cannot speak. She also made special tents that can change size and shape. These tents react to changes in light or the number of people inside. Another project involved fabric walls that change based on people's emotions in the room.

Awards and Teaching

In 2022, Felecia Davis was chosen as an alternate for a special architecture prize. This was the WOJR-Civitella Ranieri Foundation Architecture Prize. She was selected alongside Patti Anahory.

Currently, Davis is a professor at Pennsylvania State University. She teaches in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. She also directs a lab there called SOFTLAB@PSU. This lab focuses on soft, flexible computing. She is also a founding member of the Black Reconstruction Collective. Her studio, FELECIA DAVIS STUDIO, has been a finalist in many design contests.
