Feliciano Canaverys (born June 8, 1813 – died 1840) was an important military officer from Argentina. He lived during a time of big changes and conflicts in his country.

Who Was Feliciano Canaverys?

Feliciano Canaverys was born in Buenos Aires, a major city in Argentina. His parents were José Canaverys and Agustina Denis. His family, the Denis family, were among the first Irish settlers in Buenos Aires. They came to the Río de la Plata region in the 1600s.

Early Military Career

Feliciano Canaverys chose a career in the military. In 1830, when he was about 17 years old, he finished his training. He became a Second Lieutenant in the artillery branch of the army. Artillery uses large guns and cannons.

Political Troubles and Escape

In 1840, Feliciano Canaverys faced serious problems. He was thought to be part of the Unitarian Party. This political group was against the government at the time, which was led by the Federales. Because of these suspicions, Feliciano was removed from the army. The government also ordered that he be taken into custody.

To avoid this, Feliciano decided to leave Argentina. He escaped to Uruguay. There, he joined the army of General Juan Lavalle, who was also a Unitarian leader.

Final Days

Feliciano Canaverys traveled to a place called Tacuarembó in Uruguay. However, he was caught in an ambush by Federales troops. After he was captured, General Manuel Oribe, a leader of the Federales, gave an order. Sadly, Feliciano Canaverys died that year in 1840.
