Playing Rugby: Club Career

Starting Out in Argentina

Felipe Contepomi began playing rugby at his secondary school, Colegio Cardenal Newman. He then played for Club Newman in Buenos Aires. In 2001, he signed his first professional contract. He joined the English team Bristol.

Playing for Leinster Rugby

After Bristol was moved to a lower league in 2003, Felipe joined Leinster in Ireland. He was a key player for Leinster. In the 2005–06 Heineken Cup, he helped Leinster win a big game against Toulouse. He scored 21 points and was named man of the match. That year, he scored the most points in both the 2005–06 Celtic League and the Heineken Cup.

In 2006, Felipe's daughter, Catalina, was born. Just hours later, he played for Leinster in a match where he scored 22 points! In November of that year, another famous rugby player, Agustín Pichot, said Felipe was even better than All Black fly-half, Dan Carter.

Becoming a Doctor

On May 31, 2007, Felipe earned his medical degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Dublin. He even worked at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin for a while. This shows he is talented both on and off the field!

Injuries and New Teams

Felipe helped Leinster win against Munster in the Heineken Cup semi-final on May 2, 2009. He scored a drop goal, but then got a knee injury. Doctors found he had torn a ligament, which meant he would be out for about six months.

He returned to play for Toulon in France on November 21, 2009. He scored a penalty in their win. In March 2009, it was announced that Felipe would leave Leinster. He signed a four-year deal with Toulon. After two seasons with Toulon, he moved to Stade Français for the 2011–12 season. He then returned to Argentina in 2013 before he retired from playing.

He also scored 11 points in the pool victory over Ireland and in the quarter-final against Scotland. The IRB nominated Felipe as one of the top five players for the 2007 International Player of the Year award.

After the veteran player Agustín Pichot retired, Felipe became the captain of the Pumas in 2008. This was under the new coach, Santiago Phelan.

A knee injury in 2009 kept him out of action for over a year. But he returned to play for the Pumas in 2010. He scored 31 points in their 41–13 victory over France. He was also part of the Argentine squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, playing as captain.
