Early Life and Family
Felix was born in Munich-Pasing, Germany. Skiing runs in his family! His mom, Rosi Mittermaier, was a World and Olympic champion. His dad, Christian Neureuther, was also a great slalom skier who won six World Cup races.
Felix's aunt, Evi Mittermaier, was another successful alpine ski racer and Olympian. Together, the Neureuther–Mittermaier family has achieved amazing things in skiing. They have won 31 World Cup races and finished on the podium 115 times!
Felix's Skiing Career
Felix grew up in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. He became a key member of the German national ski team. He competed in nine World Championships and three Winter Olympics.
Felix won a silver medal in the slalom at the 2013 World Championships. He also earned a bronze medal in the team event that same year. Before that, he won a gold medal in the team event at the 2005 World Championships. He also won bronze medals in slalom in 2015 and 2017.
Felix won his very first World Cup race in 2010. It was a slalom race in Kitzbühel, Austria. He won his only giant slalom race in January 2014 in Adelboden, Switzerland. This was a big deal because it was only the second time a German man had won a World Cup giant slalom race! The first was almost 41 years earlier.
By January 2019, Felix had won 13 World Cup races and stood on the podium 47 times. This makes him Germany's most successful male World Cup skier ever! In March 2019, he announced that he was retiring from competitive skiing. His final race was a slalom at the World Cup finals in Soldeu, Andorra.
Life Outside Skiing
Felix's parents, Christian Neureuther and Rosi Mittermaier, were both famous World Cup ski racers in the 1970s. His mom, Rosi, won two gold medals and one silver medal at the 1976 Winter Olympics.
Since 2013, Felix has been in a relationship with biathlete Miriam Gössner. They got married in December 2017. In October 2017, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Matilda.
One of Felix's good friends from childhood is the famous footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger. Felix even presented Bastian with a special award at the 2016 Bambi Awards.
