Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter (which means Five ants are more than four elephants) is a super popular Swedish TV show for kids. It first aired between 1973 and 1975. The show was hosted by three amazing people: Magnus Härenstam, Brasse Brännström, and Eva Remaeus.
This fun TV series was packed with catchy songs and funny sketches. It taught kids about important things like letters, numbers, and even where things are located (like right, left, under, or above). The very first episode was shown on November 19, 1973, on TV2, which is part of Sveriges Television. It was so loved that it was even broadcast as Sveriges Television's Christmas calendar from November 27 to December 24, 1977. You can still find Fem myror to buy on VHS and DVD, and there are even PC games based on the show! Some of the animated parts, especially the number segments created by Owe Gustafson, were even used in the famous American TV show Sesame Street.

What the TV Show Taught
Besides being super entertaining, Magnus, Brasse, and Eva had a clear goal. They wanted to get children excited about learning letters and numbers. Each episode of the show lasted about 30 minutes. It focused on one specific letter and one number as its main theme.
- Magnus played a character who was very neat and precise.
- Brasse played a character who was a bit messy and relaxed.
- Eva played a character who was always proper and organized.
These different personalities made the show even more fun and relatable for kids.
Creative Minds Behind the Scenes
Many talented people helped create Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter. The show was produced by Bengt Linné and Lasse Haglund. The catchy music you hear in the show was written by Bengt Ernryd. The words for the songs, called lyrics, were written by Magnus Härenstam and Brasse Brännström themselves. The cool animations, like the ones that ended up on Sesame Street, were made by Owe Gustafson. Later in the series, famous Swedish singer Monica Zetterlund and Tomas Löfdahl provided voice-overs for some of the animated parts.
Fun Sketches and Learning
The show was full of memorable sketches that helped kids learn. One popular segment was Brasse's fun box, called "lattjo-lajban-låda." In this sketch, Brasse would show four animals. The challenge was to figure out which one didn't belong with the others and why. Magnus and Eva would try to guess, but Brasse always had a different idea! This sketch taught children that things can have many different qualities or properties. It showed that there isn't always just one right answer.
Fem myror as a Christmas Calendar
In 1977, Fem myror was chosen to be SVT's Sveriges Television's Christmas calendar. Usually, the Christmas calendar, or julkalendern, runs from December 1st to December 24th. However, Fem myror had an episode for almost every letter in the Swedish alphabet. To make sure all 28 letters (at that time) could have their own show, it started earlier, on November 27th, and ran until December 24th. (Back then, the letter W was seen as a version of V, not a separate letter, until 2006.)
Fem myror has remained a beloved classic. In 2006, it was even voted the 'Best children's TV series' at a popular TV show called Folktoppen. It won with more than 50% of the votes, showing just how much people still loved it!
