Becoming a Priest

When he was 15 years old, Ferdinand went to Lisbon College in Portugal. He studied there to become a Catholic priest. On February 18, 1720, he officially became a Roman Catholic priest in Portugal.

His Work in England

In 1723, Ferdinand Ashmall came back to England. For a few years, he worked as a chaplain for Mary Salvin in Elvet, County Durham. After her death in 1727, he moved back to his family's home in Amerston.

Later, he moved to New House, County Durham. He stayed there as the local priest for the rest of his life. He served as a priest for 73 years!

His Long Life

Ferdinand Ashmall passed away at New House on February 2, 1798. He was in his 104th year of life when he died.
