He represented different areas, including Szerencs and Tiszaújváros. He also served as the Mayor of Szerencs from 2010 to 2018.
Becoming a Teacher
Ferenc Koncz was born in a place called Tornaszentjakab in Hungary. This was on October 2, 1959. He finished high school in Miskolc in 1978. There, he learned about machine production technology.
He started working at a building company. In 1980, he began teaching at a primary school. After his military service, he went to college. He studied mathematics and physics from 1983 to 1987. He studied at two different colleges. After college, he taught in Budapest for a year. Then, he moved to Szerencs to teach at an elementary school.
His Political Journey
Ferenc Koncz became interested in politics while in college. In 1990, he joined a political party called Fidesz. He led the Fidesz group in Szerencs for five years. He also served on the party's national board. Later, he became a vice president for the party in his county.
He was elected to the local council in Szerencs in 1990 and 1994. He often worked on committees related to education and sports. He was a deputy mayor for a short time. From 2002 to 2010, he was a member of the General Assembly of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county. He was also its vice-president for four years.
Serving in Parliament
Koncz first ran for parliament in 1994. In 1998, he won a seat in the Parliament. He worked on committees for youth, sports, and the environment. He became a Member of Parliament again in 2004. This was to fill a seat left by another politician.
In 2010, he became the MP for Szerencs. He worked on committees for sustainable development and energy. In the same year, he was elected Mayor of Szerencs. He served as mayor until 2018.
He did not run for parliament in 2014. This was because of a new law about holding multiple jobs. However, he was re-elected as Mayor of Szerencs. In 2018, Fidesz nominated him to run for parliament again. He won the election and became an MP for Tiszaújváros. He then resigned from his mayor position. He continued to work on climate protection in parliament until his death.
After he left the mayor's office, Tibor Nyiri became the new mayor. Nyiri was also from the Fidesz party. However, their relationship became difficult. In 2019, Nyiri ran for mayor again as an independent candidate. Koncz and his party supported a different candidate. Nyiri won the election, and Fidesz lost its seats on the town council.
