Ferenc Talányi (born Ferenc Temlin) was a Slovene writer, journalist, and painter. He was born on May 23, 1883, and passed away on July 9, 1959. He came from the Prekmurje region.

Early Life and Work

Ferenc Talányi was born in Brezovci, a village near Puconci in Slovenia. His parents, Mihály Temlin and Katarina Frankó, were farmers. They belonged to the Lutheran faith.

As a young man, Ferenc studied the catering business. He learned his trade in Budapest and later in Germany. During this time, he changed his last name from Temlin to Talányi.

He worked as a restaurant owner in the Slovene March, which is now known as Prekmurje. He also worked in Ormož and Bad Radkersburg. Besides his restaurant work, he was an editor. He helped create an almanac called Dober pajdás kalendárium.

Political Activities and Writing

In 1919, Ferenc Talányi supported a workers' movement in Hungary. He was part of a political group that believed in workers' rights. After this movement ended, he moved to the Štajerska region.

He became an editor for several newspapers. Talányi did not agree with policies that tried to make people speak only Hungarian. He even wrote Dober pajdás in Slovene. This showed his support for his native language.

In 1930, he faced challenges because of his past political beliefs. Later, in 1941, when Prekmurje was occupied, he briefly wrote Dober pajdás in the local Prekmurje dialect. However, he soon joined a group of freedom fighters known as partisans. He used the secret name Očka, which means "Papa."

Later Years and Legacy

In January 1945, Ferenc Talányi was captured. He was held in German prisons for a short time. After World War II ended, he became involved in several political groups in Yugoslavia.

In 1955, he wrote an article for a newspaper called Pomurski vestnik. In this article, Talányi shared details about his earlier political activities. He passed away in 1959 in Murska Sobota.
