Story of the Magical Rescue
Crysta, a fairy, is learning to control nature even better. She is looking after three baby animals. Crysta and Pips, another fairy, have a friendly competition. They see who can grow the most amazing plant. Pips also wishes to explore the world outside FernGully.
Poachers and a Forest Fire
Suddenly, Batty Koda, a bat, arrives in a panic. He warns that human poachers are close by. The poachers arrive with their dogs. They capture the three baby animals. Crysta and Pips try to rescue them in FernGully. But they are not successful. A large forest fire starts, damaging a big part of the forest. Mother Kangaroo gets hurt.
Pips and the Beetle Boys decide to follow the humans. They want to go to town and save the babies. They convince Batty to be their guide, even though he is scared. They arrive at a town amusement park. The bright rides fascinate them. Batty reminds them to focus on their important mission.
New Friends and a Rescue Plan
Meanwhile, the fairies are working to heal the rainforest. Crysta finds one of the poachers' dogs. He is caught in a trap and left behind. Crysta helps him and names him Boof. She takes Boof with her on a journey to the town.
Pips and the Beetle Boys meet a girl named Budgie. She is practicing hard for her clown act. Pips flies over to her and introduces himself and his friends. Budgie kindly offers them shelter in her trailer. Batty finds where the poachers are keeping the animals. But the others are too interested in human inventions. Bark and Batty try to rescue the animals. Batty gets caught by the poachers.
Budgie tells Pips she has worked on her clown act for years. She feels she is not very good. Pips tells her to relax and just be herself. Back where the babies are, the animals are very scared. They worry they will never get home. Batty bravely comforts them. Then, the poachers load all the cages onto a big truck.
The Final Chase
At the fair, Budgie wins a stuffed kangaroo at a game. This reminds Pips of the baby animals he needs to save. He tells Budgie about them. She offers to help him. They all go to an old warehouse. The poachers drive away in their truck. Budgie bravely jumps onto the truck.
Budgie's grandfather sees her hanging onto the truck. He drives after them. Budgie manages to get inside the truck. She frees all the birds in the cages. The poachers see Budgie and get angry. One of them tries to get her off the truck. She gets away, but he unlatches the car she is on. It rolls backward towards a cliff.
Budgie ends up hanging off the cliff. Batty catches her and lifts her up. He is much smaller but very strong. Budgie's grandfather catches them in his net. They are safe on solid ground.
The group then uses a clown car to reach the ship. The animals are being loaded onto it. Pips unhooks the conveyor belt. The cages fall into Budgie's grandfather's car. A struggle for the cages begins between Budgie and the poachers. Boof and Crysta arrive to help. The other dog, Slasher, turns against his former master. The boat starts to leave. The fairies use their magic to grow a giant tree. This stops the boat. Nugget, one of the baby animals, almost drowns but escapes. Budgie and her grandfather adopt Slasher and Boof. All the animals and fairies return home to FernGully.
