What is Triathlon?
A triathlon is a race with three parts. Athletes first swim, then bike, and finally run. The Ironman Triathlon is one of the hardest types of triathlon. It has very long distances for each part.
Fernanda's Amazing Achievements
Fernanda Keller is truly special in the world of triathlon. She is the only female athlete ever to compete in the Ironman World Championships for 23 years in a row! That's a lot of races!
She also finished in the top ten 14 times in this big race. This shows how consistent and strong she was. At the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, she earned a bronze medal six times. These wins were in 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.
Winning in Brazil
Fernanda also won the Ironman Brazil race three times. She took first place in 2000, 2004, and 2008. She also came in second place four other times.
Her First and Many Races
Fernanda's first triathlon was in 1983. This was in Rio de Janeiro when she was still at university. Thirty years later, in 2013, she raced in Ironman Hawaii for the 24th time. She finished the race in about 11 hours. She placed sixth among 55 women in her age group.
Giving Back: The Fernanda Keller Institute
Fernanda Keller also cares a lot about helping others. In September 1998, she started her own organization. It is called the Instituto Fernanda Keller. This institute helps about 700 young people. It supports kids and teens from 7 to 18 years old. It's a great way for her to give back to her community.
In 2012, Fernanda also launched her own line of clothing. This collection included fitness and casual clothes.
