Juan Fernando Cordero Cueva (born May 27, 1952) is an Ecuadorian politician and architect. He is also known as Corcho Cordero. He has held many important roles in Ecuador's government. These roles include being the mayor of Cuenca and a leader in the country's main law-making bodies.

Early Life and Education
Fernando Cordero was born in 1952 in Cuenca, Ecuador. His father was Leonardo Cordero Vega, and his mother was Beatriz Cueva Jaramillo. His grandfather, Carlos Cueva Tamaríz, was also a well-known politician.
Studying Architecture
Cordero studied architecture at the University of Cuenca. He graduated in 1975. Later, he continued his studies in Brazil until 1977. He also earned a Master's degree in Urbanism from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2007.
Teaching and Leadership
Since 1977, he has been a professor at his old university, the University of Cuenca. He also served as a dean there from 1989 to 1991 and again from 1994 to 1996. He has worked with international groups focused on city planning.

Mayor of Cuenca
In 1996, Cordero was elected as the mayor of Cuenca. He was so popular that he was re-elected for a second term in 2000. During his time as mayor, he won an award in 2004 for being the best mayor in Ecuador among 22 participants. He served as mayor until 2005.
National Government Roles
After being mayor, Cordero moved to national politics.
- In 2006, he was elected as a member of the Ecuadorian Congress. He received the most votes of any candidate in the country.
- In 2007, he became a member of the Ecuadorian Constituent Assembly. This group was responsible for writing a new constitution for Ecuador. He served as the President of this Assembly from June to October 2008.
- From 2009 to 2013, he was the President of the National Assembly. This is Ecuador's main law-making body.
- From September 2014 to March 2016, he served as the Minister of National Defence. This means he was in charge of the country's military and defense. He took over from María Fernanda Espinosa and was later replaced by Ricardo Patiño.
Personal Life
Fernando Cordero Cueva is married to Nelly Carvallo. They have three children together.
