About Roseland
Roseland is a community area in Chicago, known for its history and the people who live there. It's a place where many different neighborhoods come together.
History of Roseland
Long ago, a man named George Pullman had a big idea. He wanted to build a special town around his factory. This factory made fancy "Palace" railway coaches, which were like luxury train cars. Pullman planned Roseland to be a "model industrial city," meaning it was designed to be a perfect place for his workers to live and work.
Community and Art
Roseland is also known for its art. A famous mural called "I Welcome Myself to a New Place: Roseland Pullman Mural" was created in 1988 by artists Olivia Gude, Jon Pounds, and Marcus Jefferson. This beautiful artwork was designed to help bring the community closer, especially the many African American residents who live there. Like many big cities, Roseland has faced challenges, but people there are working hard to make it a great place to live.
