Ferruccio Mazzola (born February 1, 1945 – died May 7, 2013) was an Italian football player and coach. He played as a midfielder. Ferruccio came from a very famous football family. His father was the legendary player Valentino Mazzola. His older brother, Sandro Mazzola, was also a well-known footballer.
Playing Football
Ferruccio started his football journey in the youth team of Internazionale from 1963 to 1964. At that time, his older brother, Sandro, was playing for the main team. This team was very successful and was known as La Grande Inter.
He played for several teams during his career. He spent a good amount of time with Venezia from 1965 to 1967. He also played for Lazio from 1968 to 1974. With Lazio, he won an Italian Championship in the 1973–74 season. He even became the team's captain for a while.
Ferruccio also had short periods playing for other clubs. These included Marzotto, Lecco, and Fiorentina. In 1975, he played for an American team called Hartford Bicentennials for a season. He finished his playing career with Sant'Angelo in 1977, when he was 30 years old. In 1976, he also played in Canada for Toronto Italia.
Becoming a Coach
After he stopped playing football in 1977, Ferruccio decided to become a coach. He had success in this new role. He helped two teams get promoted from Serie C2 to Serie C1. These teams were Siena in the 1984–85 season and Venezia in the 1987–88 season.
