Club History: The Story of Valle d'Aosta Calcio
Early Days: From Augusta Praetoria to U.S. Aosta
The football club started way back in 1911. Its first name was Augusta Praetoria Sports. Over the years, the club changed its name a few times. In 1931, it became A.S. Aosta. Then, in 1945, it was renamed U.S. Aosta 1911.
This team played in a professional league called Serie C during different periods. They were in Serie C from 1941 to 1943, then from 1945 to 1948, and again in 1951-1952.
Challenges and Changes for Aosta 1911
After many years, the U.S. Aosta 1911 club faced financial problems. This meant they could no longer pay their bills or keep playing. So, the club officially closed down in 1998. Their last season was in a regional league called Promozione Piedmont and Aosta Valley.
The Rise and Fall of Valle d'Aosta Calcio
A new club was formed in 1997. It was called U.S. Valle d’Aosta Chatillon Saint Vincent Fenusma. This new club took over the spot in the Serie D league from another team, U.S. Châtillon Saint Vincent. The original Châtillon Saint Vincent team was from a town called Saint-Vincent.
In the year 2000, the club changed its name again to Valle d’Aosta Calcio. They also moved their main office to the city of Aosta.
Winning and Relegation
In the 2007–08 season, Valle d'Aosta Calcio did very well. They won their group in the Eccellenza Piedmont league. This win helped them move up to a higher league. However, just two years later, in the 2009–10 season, they moved down from 2009–10 Serie D back to the Eccellenza league.
After moving down a league, the club again faced serious financial difficulties. Because of these problems, Valle d’Aosta Calcio had to close down in 2010.
Football in Aosta Valley Today
Since 2010, another football club, A.S.D. Vallée d’Aoste Charvensod, has said they are the "heir" to Valle d'Aosta Calcio. This means they feel like they are carrying on the spirit of the old club. However, they never actually bought the old club's official rights or assets.
In 2012, another team called Saint-Christophe was promoted to a league called Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. This club then changed its common name to simply "Vallée d’Aoste". They did this to show they represent the entire Aosta Valley region. But this team also does not plan to officially take over the old Valle d'Aosta Calcio's history or assets.
Team Colors
The team's official colors were red and black.
