Fidel Francisco Martínez Tenorio, born on February 15, 1990, is a talented footballer from Ecuador. He plays as a winger for El Nacional, a club in Ecuador's top football league. He also represents the Ecuador national team.

Fidel Martínez's Football Journey

Starting in Youth Clubs

Fidel Martínez began his football journey at a young age with a club called Caribe Junior. He showed great skill during his youth years. One of his early big achievements was at the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil. There, the Ecuadorian team won the gold medal, and Fidel was a very important player for them. After Caribe Junior, he played for Independiente José Terán before moving to Cruzeiro.

2010 Season Highlights

In 2010, Fidel joined Deportivo Quito. He made his first appearance on October 16, 2010, against El Nacional. He scored his first goal of the season against ESPOLI. In his first year, Fidel played nine games, scored one goal, and made one assist.

2011 Championship Season

The 2011 season was a big one for Fidel. He played in thirty games, scoring nine goals and assisting five times. One of his most important goals was in the first game of the Serie A final against Emelec. His team, Deportivo Quito, became champions of the 2011 season.

2012 Copa Libertadores Success

In 2012, Fidel started the season strong. He played his first ever Copa Libertadores match on February 7, 2012, against Guadalajara. He scored his first goal in this big tournament on March 7 against Velez Sarsfield, helping his team win 3–0. Fidel played all six group stage games in the 2012 Copa Libertadores, scoring two goals and helping his team reach the last 16. This was a big achievement for Deportivo Quito.

On May 22, 2012, Fidel Martínez moved to the Mexican team Tijuana. He made his first appearance for Tijuana on July 20, helping them win 2–0 against Puebla. On December 2, Fidel and Tijuana won their first ever top league title! Fidel helped by assisting both goals in their 2–0 win over Toluca. He also scored four goals in ten Copa Libertadores games for Tijuana.

2013–14 Season with Tijuana

For the 2013–14 Liga MX season, Fidel was given the number 10 jersey for Tijuana. He scored his first goal of this season on August 4. He continued to score important goals, including his first ever CONCACAF Champions League goal on August 9. On September 7, he scored two goals in one game, helping his team win 3–0 against Veracruz.

Playing for Leones Negros

2014–15 Season Highlights

On June 4, 2014, Fidel joined Leones Negros UdeG on loan from Tijuana. On August 20, 2014, Fidel scored a goal that gave Leones Negros their first Liga MX victory in over 20 years against León. He even scored against his old team, Tijuana, in a 1–1 draw.

Time with Pumas UNAM

On May 24, 2015, Fidel Martínez joined UNAM, also known as Pumas. He had a good first year, scoring four goals and making six assists in the regular season. He also scored in the quarter-finals, helping Pumas advance to the semi-finals.

Fidel Martínez was first called to play for the Ecuador senior team in 2008. He made his debut on December 17 in a tournament in Oman, where he scored the winning goal against Iran. He also played in the 2009 South American Youth Championship. After some time away, he was called back to the national team in 2013 for World Cup qualification matches.
