The men's field hockey tournament at the 2022 Asian Games was a big event. It was the 17th time men's field hockey was played at the Asian Games. The games took place in Hangzhou, China, from September 24 to October 6, 2023. All the matches were held at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Field Hockey Field.

India played amazingly and won their fourth Asian Games title! They beat the previous champions, Japan, with a score of 5–1 in the final match. South Korea earned the bronze medal. They won against the host country, China, with a score of 2–1. By winning, India also got a special prize: they qualified directly for the 2024 Summer Olympics!

Twelve teams from across Asia took part in this exciting tournament. These teams were chosen through special qualification rounds. They all aimed to win the gold medal and a spot in the Olympics.

How the Tournament Worked

The tournament started with a preliminary round. The twelve teams were split into two groups, called Pool A and Pool B. Each team played against every other team in their group. This helped decide which teams would move on to the next stage.

In Pool A, the teams were India, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, and Singapore.

The top two teams from Pool B, China and South Korea, also made it to the semi-finals.

Final Rounds

After the preliminary matches, the teams moved into the final rounds. This included games to decide all the places, from eleventh to first.

Games for Lower Places

  • Eleventh Place Game: Thailand beat Singapore 3–2.
  • Ninth Place Game: Indonesia won against Uzbekistan 4–1.
  • Seventh Place Game: Oman defeated Bangladesh 4–3 in a close match.
  • Fifth Place Game: Pakistan won against Malaysia 5–2.

Medal Matches

These were the most important games, where teams battled for the gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Semi-finals

  • India vs. South Korea: India won this exciting match 5–3. This meant India would play for the gold medal!
