The men's field hockey tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics was a super exciting event! It was the 25th time men's field hockey was played at the Summer Olympics. The games took place from July 27 to August 8, 2024, in Paris, France, at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir.

The team from the Netherlands won the gold medal, beating Germany in the final match. India earned the bronze medal, coming in third place.

How the Competition Worked

The field hockey tournament had a clear plan for how teams would play.

Tournament Format

Twelve teams competed in the tournament. They were split into two groups of six teams each. In the first part, called the group stage, every team in a group played against every other team in their group once.

After the group stage, the top four teams from each group moved on to the quarter-finals. These were knockout games, meaning if a team lost, they were out of the tournament. The winners of the quarter-finals went to the semi-finals.

The two teams that won their semi-final matches played for the gold medal in the final. The two teams that lost their semi-final matches played against each other for the bronze medal.

How Teams Qualified

Teams qualified for the Olympics in a few ways. France automatically qualified because they were the host country. The champions from five different regions (called confederations) also got a spot. The remaining teams earned their places through special qualification tournaments held in 2024.
