The women's field hockey tournament at the 2022 Asian Games was a big event. It was the 11th time women's field hockey was played at the Asian Games. The games took place in Hangzhou, China. They happened from September 25 to October 7, 2023. The matches were held at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Field Hockey Field.

The host country, China, won the gold medal. They beat South Korea 2–0 in the final match. This was China's fourth Asian Games title in women's field hockey. India won the bronze medal. They defeated Japan 2–1. By winning, China earned a direct spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Teams That Competed

To play in the tournament, teams had to qualify first. Ten teams from Asia competed in total. These teams were divided into two groups, Pool A and Pool B.


Just like the men's teams, the women's teams also had different ways to qualify. The host country automatically got a spot. Other teams qualified based on their performance in the 2018 Asian Games. There was also a special qualification tournament for women's teams in 2022.

First Round: Pool Play

Teams played against every other team in their group. Points were given for wins and draws. The top teams from each group moved on to the semi-finals.

In Pool A, five teams battled it out. These teams were India, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. India and South Korea showed strong performances. They both moved forward to the semi-finals.

Pool B Teams and Results

Pool B also had five teams competing. These were Japan, China, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia. Japan and China were the strongest teams in this group. They both earned their spots in the semi-finals.

After the pool play, the top teams moved to the medal rounds. Other teams played classification games to decide their final ranks.

Classification Games

  • Ninth Place Game: Hong Kong beat Indonesia 2–1 to finish ninth.
  • Seventh Place Game: Singapore won against Kazakhstan 2–0 for seventh place.
  • Fifth Place Game: Malaysia defeated Thailand 2–1 to secure fifth place.
