Fifth Avenue Place is a huge building complex in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was once known as Esso Plaza. This large complex takes up an entire city block in Downtown Calgary. You can find it between 4th and 5th Avenue South and 1st and 2nd Street West.
The company Brookfield Properties looks after and manages these buildings.
About Fifth Avenue Place
Fifth Avenue Place is made up of two very tall buildings. These are called the East Tower and the West Tower. Both towers have 35 floors and stand about 133 meters (436 feet) tall.
Building work started in 1979 and finished in 1981. This was during a time when Calgary's oil industry was growing very fast.
Building Design
Even though the two towers look almost the same, they are placed in an "L" shape. The West Tower faces east and west. The East Tower faces north and south.
Fifth Avenue Place was built in a style called "late modernist." This means it has a clean, modern look. The outside walls are made of "curtain walls." These are special walls with glass panels that cover the whole building.
What's Inside?
Underneath the buildings, there's a three-level parking garage. It has space for 793 cars.
The two towers are connected by a shopping area with two levels. This shopping area is called a galleria. You can also reach nearby buildings from here using the Plus 15 skywalk network. These are enclosed walkways high above the street.
