Fillmore, Louisiana facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Fillmore is a small community located in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. It's known as a populated place, which means it's an area where people live, but it's not an official city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger Bossier Parish.

History of Fillmore

The story of Fillmore began around the year 1848. A man named Thomas Dixon Connell built an inn there. An inn was like a hotel or guesthouse where travelers could stop and rest, eat, and sleep during their journeys. Because of this inn, the settlement became known as "Connell's Cross Road." This name probably came from the fact that it was located where two roads met, making it a convenient stop for travelers.

A few years later, in 1852, the community decided to change its name. The settlement and its local post office were renamed "Fillmore." This new name was chosen to honor the 13th U.S. President, Millard Fillmore, who was serving as president at that time. Presidents are the leaders of a country, and they often have towns or landmarks named after them to remember their time in office.
