Finland, South Carolina facts for kids
Finland is a small, unincorporated community located in Bamberg County, in the sunny U.S. state of South Carolina. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
A Glimpse into Finland's Past
Finland got its interesting name a long time ago. It was named to fit a special plan by the railroad company. They wanted to give places along their tracks names from Scandinavia, a region in Northern Europe. This is why you can also find other nearby communities with Scandinavian names, like Norway, South Carolina and Sweden, South Carolina. These names help tell a story about the history of the railroads in South Carolina.
