Finlay, Texas is a ghost town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, in the United States. It is about 17 miles (27 km) west of another town called Sierra Blanca. A ghost town is a place that used to have people living there, but now it's mostly empty or abandoned.
The Story of Finlay
Finlay was named after a person known as J.R. Finlay. This community slowly grew in the early 1900s.
Post Offices in Finlay
Finlay had two post offices during its history.
- One post office was built in 1890, but it never actually opened for business.
- The second post office was officially started in 1903.
Population Changes
Even though Finlay grew a bit in the early 20th century, its population never became very large. The last time its population was counted, in the 1940s, there were only about one hundred people living there. After that, the town became a ghost town.
