Fire in the Hole at RCDB

Fire in the Hole is an exciting indoor roller coaster at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. This steel coaster was created with Rocky Mountain Construction. It's a special ride that mixes a dark ride's storytelling with a roller coaster's thrills. You'll go through different scenes that tell the tale of Marmaros, an old mining town. The ride has a powered climb, gravity drops, and even a splashdown! This new version, which opened on March 30, 2024, brings back the fun of the original 1972 "Fire in the Hole" ride. It has a similar story and layout, but with cool new effects and amazing sound. You can find it in the park's Fire District.

What's the Story Behind Fire in the Hole?

The "Fire in the Hole" ride tells a cool story about a town called Marmaros. This town was once right next to Marvel Cave, where Silver Dollar City is now. Marmaros grew because of a special resource found in the cave.

The legend says that the town was burned down by a group called the Baldknobbers. These were people who sometimes caused trouble in the area. No one knows the exact reason why the town burned. Some people thought it was an accident, while others believed it was due to disagreements. Even though the town likely did burn, the full story remains a mystery.

Your Adventure on the Ride

"Fire in the Hole" brings this exciting legend to life! When you enter the ride, you'll feel like you're at a "Pumper Factory" where new firefighting vehicles are being shown off. But then, you discover the town is on fire, supposedly started by the Baldknobbers!

You'll hop into special trains that look like pumper wagons. Your mission is to help put out the fire! As your train moves, you'll see many scenes of the burning mining town. You'll watch citizens trying to fight the flames. A group of Baldknobbers named Patches, Bugs, and Wiley add to the chaos.

Firefighters are busy trying to save the town. You'll cross a burning bridge that seems to fall apart, leading to the first drop! Next, you'll narrowly avoid a steam train in the ride's second drop. Finally, just before a big splashdown, you help save the town by blasting a water tower!

How the New Fire in the Hole Was Built

On February 13, 2023, Silver Dollar City shared news that the original "Fire in the Hole" ride would close on December 30, 2023. Many fans were sad to hear this. People started wondering what new attraction would take its place.

Soon, a new building began to appear in the park's Fireman's Landing area, which is now called the Fire District. This led to many guesses about the new ride.

Then, on August 14, 2023, Silver Dollar City made an exciting announcement! They revealed that a brand-new "Fire in the Hole" ride was coming. It was built with Rocky Mountain Construction, a company known for amazing rides. This was their first time building a ride that wasn't just about big thrills.

Brad Thomas, the President of Silver Dollar City, said the new ride would keep the park's history alive. He also said it would be the main attraction in the new Fire District. This ride was a huge project, costing $30 million to build. It was the biggest investment Silver Dollar City had ever made for one attraction. The park announced on March 1, 2024, that the ride would open on March 30, 2024.
