The Fires Creek Rim Trail is a super long trail that's great for hiking and horseback riding. It stretches for 23.4 miles within the Nantahala National Forest. This trail circles around the edge of the Fires Creek Wildlife Management Area. You'll know you're on the right path because it's marked with a blue blaze.

You can find several smaller trails and access roads along the way. Most people start their adventure from the Fire's Creek Picnic Area. From there, you follow a path that leads to Leatherwood Falls. Once you reach the falls, the Fires Creek Rim Trail goes right and climbs up to the ridge.

As you explore the Fires Creek Rim Trail, you'll pass by several interesting peaks and spots. Here are some of them:

  • Big Stamp (4,337 feet) to Weatherman Bald (4,960 feet): This part is about 5.4 miles long and takes around 4 hours to hike.
  • Weatherman Bald to Tusquitee Bald (5,240 feet): This section is 1.9 miles and usually takes about 2.5 hours.
  • Tusquitee Bald to Chestnut Stump Knob (4,400 feet): This stretch is 2.6 miles long, taking about 3 hours.
  • Chestnut Stump Knob to Carver Gap (2,996 feet): This part is 3.5 miles and takes around 3.5 hours.
  • Carver Gap to Hunter Camp (1,800 feet): The final section is 3.75 miles, taking about 2 hours.
