The First Bank and Trust Tower is a very tall building in New Orleans, Louisiana. It stands in the city's main business area, called the Central Business District. This building is 36 stories high and reaches about 481 feet (147 meters) into the sky.
It was designed by a company called Welton Becket & Associates. The tower was finished in 1987. It's one of the tallest buildings in New Orleans and the entire state of Louisiana.
The building has different uses. Floors 2 through 8 are for parking cars. The floors from 10 to 36 are used for offices. The building is currently owned by Hertz Investment Group. Its name comes from a local bank called First Bank and Trust.
What Does It Look Like?
The outside of the First Bank and Trust Tower is covered in special stone called granite. It also has windows with a bronze (brownish) tint.
At night, bright spotlights shine on the building. This makes it light up the New Orleans skyline. It's one of the easiest buildings to spot at night!
Right in front of the main entrance, on Poydras Street, you can see two cool bronze statues. These sculptures were made by an artist named Enrique Alférez. They show a figure of David and a person playing a lute (an old musical instrument).
What Happened During Hurricane Katrina?
In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. The First Bank and Trust Tower had some damage from the storm. Some windows were blown out, and the roof was also damaged.
But don't worry! The building was fixed up quickly. It was able to open its doors again to the people who worked there later in 2005.
