The First Ladies National Historic Site is a special place in Canton, Ohio. It's a National Historic Site that celebrates all the amazing First Ladies of the United States. This site was created because Mary Regula, whose husband was a representative from Ohio, noticed there wasn't much information about First Ladies. She helped start a library in 1996 to gather all this history. This led to the creation of the Historic Site itself!

What is the First Ladies Site?
This historic site was officially created in 2000. Its main goal is to honor all the First Ladies of the United States. The site has two main buildings for visitors to explore.
Exploring the Buildings
- The first building is the Education & Research Center. This is where people can learn more about the First Ladies.
- The second building is the historic home of Ida Saxton McKinley. She was the wife of U.S. president William McKinley. You can see how she lived in her actual home.
Who Manages the Site?
The National First Ladies' Library helps run the site. They work together with the National Park Service. The site is also managed by Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Keeping the Site in Good Shape
Since it opened in 2000, the historic site has needed a lot of care. Keeping old buildings in good condition can be expensive. For example, in 2014, it was estimated that a full restoration would cost about $220,000. This cost grew over the years. By 2017, it was estimated to be over $1 million! However, the cost went down a bit in 2018 to $882,000.
