Church History in Uniontown
The church started way back in 1848. Back then, it was called Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
Joining Forces
A few years later, in 1853, it joined up with another church. This church was called Coffee Spring Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It also started in 1848 and was meeting a few miles away from Uniontown.
A New Home
In 1854, the church members moved into their very first building. It was on Green Street. They used that building for about 50 years! Then, they built the church you see today on Water Avenue. The new building was officially opened in 1914.
Some parts of the old church are still used today! For example, a special window in the main worship area came from the first building. The chairs where the minister speaks from are also from the old Green Street church.

This church building is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list keeps track of special places in America. The First Presbyterian Church was added on February 24, 2000. It's part of the Uniontown Historic District, which means it helps make the whole area special.
