The First United Brethren Church, also known as Otterbein Methodist Church, is a historic building in Toledo, Iowa, United States. It was built in 1946. This building replaced an older church from 1886. The first church was destroyed by a fire in 1943.
The original church had ties to Leander Clark College. This college was run by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. The college later joined with Coe College in 1919.
Over time, different church groups merged. In 1968, the church became part of the United Methodist Church. This happened when the Evangelical United Brethren Church and Methodist Churches joined together.
In 1993, this church and another one in Toledo merged. They formed Christ United Methodist Church. The new congregation moved to a different building in 2015.
A company called Hobart Historic Restoration bought this old church building. They plan to turn it into 15 apartments. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. This means it is recognized as an important historical site.
